Armed Law Enforcement Officers Denied Seating At Cheesecake Factory – Restaurant Retreats
Washington law enforcement officers were refused seating and asked to leave The Cheesecake Factory at the Tacoma Mall location on Tuesday.
Washington State Corrections Officer Miriam Nichols posted a message online on the Cheesecake Factory’s Facebook page explaining that she was denied service because three of the law enforcement officers were carrying a firearm when entering the restaurant.
She explained in the message that she was asked to leave by the general manager because they were in uniform and had a badge visible as well as being armed.
Several people on the Facebook post expressed outrage at the incident.
The following day, The Cheesecake Factory’s corporate office reached out to the State Department of Corrections and the six involved officers to apologize for the incident and let them know that the managers at the restaurant misunderstood the policy.
Nichols then posted on social media thanking The Cheesecake Factory “for reaching out and making it right.”
“Cheesecake Factory has contacted our headquarters and communications division and they are working on reaching out to all officers involved to rectify the situation. They have stated that the manager in question was misinformed of the policy and as such, mishandled the situation completely. They have stated their policy is TO ALLOW and WELCOME law enforcement on or off duty, carry firearms concealed or open carry into their establishment. Thank you Cheesecake Factory for reaching out and making it right.
